Who am I?

You can call me Carlos!

While I use this site as a professional résumé, this is first and foremost a place for me to show my digital persona; and for you to form your first impressions. I no longer am on major social media platforms, so this is my own equivalent to a Facebook or an Instagram profile.

The random stuff I do

During my undergraduate years, I got my scuba diving license, which I used to once dive shipwrecks in Coron. I also joined my uni's marksmanship team, got employed by my uni during my sophomore year, granting me less friction for my undergrad life. Occasionally I play the violin, but I more frequently tickle the plastic ivories these days. I also love building and painting gunpla, scale models, and other adjacent kits!

On gaming

As with the software engineer stereotype, I play tons of video games! My family rented out a PS1 and a PS2 during my childhood, and I got to play on the GBA, the PSP, the Vita, the 3DS, the Xbox 360, and now mainly on PC (desktop and handheld, on the Deck). My mainstays are the Final Fantasy franchise, modded Minecraft, and random games that my friends say feel like "work." 1

As of time of writing, I have 14,284 hours across 529 games on Steam2 so I pretty much play anything under the sun, save for mainstream gacha games and MOBAs. I love to believe I do my best to support and contribute to the indie gaming scene.

  1. e.g. Factorio
  2. I'm not wiring up Steam API on a static HTML site just to have it update in real-time.

Professionally...

I mainly work as a full-stack web developer by definition. Am most comfortable working with Python (Flask), Typescript, built on top of PostgreSQL. In that regard, my experience is varied as I've worked with a variety of systems: from institutional systems with thousands of users, to logistics systems with hundreds of billions of entries.

Currently, I work at Apkudo, where we work on applications to support the circular device economy.

Academically, I worked with networks and distributed systems, and continue to professionally do so. I'm also fond of maintaining / reviving needed legacy systems for clients.

(subjectively) enjoyable game about network infrastructure
a board game I got from a friend's auction; I play this online with friends @ BGArena

How do we get in touch?

Since I no longer have socials...

... and I don't particularly give away my instant messaging details to anyone, feel free to contact me at my email (carlos@mithril-works.com), which I actively check, and/or message me on LinkedIn, but I check that much less frequently.
